CADCA along with its Geographic Health Equity Alliance and in partnership with Counter Tools presents the next installment of the webinar series, “Conversations: Putting Research Into Action”, on alternative pricing strategies for tobacco products. This month’s conversation will be with Dr. Shelley Golden and Derek Carr, JD, who will present the findings of their recent article, “Simulating the Impact of a Cigarette Minimum Floor Price Law on Adult Smoking Prevalence in California”, published in Nicotine & Tobacco Research in 2020. They will discuss the effects of minimum floor price laws on tobacco use among adults and how coalitions can add minimum floor price laws to their policy change arsenal.

They found that as the floor price of cigarettes increased, prevalence of tobacco use and cigarette consumption decreased, more among individuals in households below 250% federal poverty level. Dr. Gordon and Mr. Carr will discuss the implications their findings have for coalitions looking for ways to reduce socioeconomic disparities in adult tobacco consumption in their communities. They will also discuss how coalitions can effectively implement non-tax pricing policies to impact tobacco or other substance use.

The webinar is Wednesday, July 15, 2020 | 1:00PM EST

About Research Into Action:
CADCA’s Evaluation and Research team invites you to join our bi-monthly webinar series Conversations: Putting Research into Action—the bridge between scholarly research and day-to-day coalition efforts. Throughout the year, we moderate live conversations with substance misuse prevention experts and participating coalition members. This is your opportunity to learn about the latest research and its implications for coalition work and ask pertinent questions of experts in their fields.

About GHEA:
The Geographic Health Equity Alliance (GHEA), a CADCA initiative, is a CDC funded National Network dedicated to reducing geographic health disparities related to tobacco and cancer. We define geographic health disparities as the differences in health behaviors and health outcomes related to where people live, work, and play. Our network supports the implementation of effective public health practices in places that need them the most. We work closely with state tobacco and cancer programs and their partners to provide training and support on how to reduce health disparities and improve the health of communities across our nation.
